N Seoul Tower: Is It Worth It, and How to Do It Right

N Seoul Tower sits atop Namsan Mountain and is the closest thing Seoul has to a single iconic skyline landmark — the tower our own logo is built around.

What it actually is

N Seoul Tower (also called Namsan Tower) is a communications and observation tower on top of Namsan Mountain, roughly in the geographic middle of the city. It's visible from huge parts of Seoul and, at night, lit in changing colors that are visible for miles.

Do you need the observation deck ticket

The observation deck gives a genuine 360-degree view of the city, which is worth it once — especially at sunset when the city transitions from daylight to its neon night mode. That said, the walk up Namsan itself, and the park around the tower's base, is free and offers strong views on its own, so budget-conscious travelers can skip the paid deck and still get a solid experience.

How to get up

The love locks

The fence around the tower's base is covered in thousands of padlocks left by couples — a genuinely popular ritual, and worth seeing even if you're not adding your own.

Tip: Go for sunset, not midday. You get daylight views on the way up and neon night views on the way down, which is the best of both.
